Dr. Venable is a double board-certified psychiatrist specializing in general and addiction psychiatry.  She completed her general psychiatry residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA and her addiction fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

My Approach & Values

Making a person-centered approach is at the core of how I work with patients. I believe that treatment is most effective when it’s guided by the patient’s own values, beliefs, and preferences. Each person is the expert in their own life, and my role is not to dictate or impose solutions. Instead, I aim to create a space where patients feel empowered to explore their concerns and make decisions that reflect who they are and what matters to them.

In spring 2024, my 16-yr old son was in need for an AIMS Child Psychiatrist to evaluate him in order to receive his medical certificate from the FAA. We were on tight deadlines and could not find anyone in our state willing to do the evaluation since he was a minor and not a patient. Dr. Venable was recommended to us by Dr. Flynn, Assistant Chief Psychiatrist at FAA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Dr. Venable was very responsive to emails and we were able to be scheduled within our FAA timeframe. During our visit, Dr. Venable showed genuine care and interest in our circumstances and my son’s mental health. She was very patient with our questions and the atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxed. She demonstrated a great deal of care for my son even with it being an evaluation visit rather than a regular patient. We knew Dr. Venable had my son’s best interests in mind. Her turnaround time to complete her report was 1-2 days, which was super impressive. Dr. Venable demonstrates great proficiency and integrity in her practices and has become a trusted advocate for my son in his pilot licensing process.

I started working with Dr. Venable in March of 2023. When I was introduced to Dr. Venable, I was at the lowest point of my life, having just entered an inpatient rehabilitation center. I was confused and frightened, and at the age of 54, I was lost and without a road map to find my way back onto solid ground. Dr. Venable and I had an instant connection. She immediately made me feel safe, protected and valued. She has always taken the time to listen to me with compassion and without judgement. Through hard work, she has mentored me and taught me how to feel my feelings rather than to over think my feelings. She has guided me thru her own experience, strength and hope to see a better way forward. She challenges me to think outside of the box and to help me see that perhaps a different approach to life could be a better, more joyful and more productive way of living. I am on a life long journey to live a more purposeful and authentic life. Dr. Venable has given me the tools to help me navigate the ever changing complexities of life. Today I am living my best life, working had to be free of anger, resentments and fear. I owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Venable for her outstanding professional work.
